Easter Egg Hunt Friday Morning

Many schools will be in session on Good Friday to make up snow days for the year. Many school children will have egg hunts on Friday to celebrate Easter Weekend. The Gym in Oneonta wanted to do something special for the little ones who aren't in school yet. You don't need to be a member to participate in our Easter Egg Hunt on Friday at 8:30.  The Gym staff will hide eggs (some filled with goodies) around the area for children to find. Bring your baskets and come on down in the morning!

Remember we will be closed on Sunday for the Easter holiday.

Update announcements on The Fitness Challenge

Our 1st week of the Fitness Challenge has been “a Challenge” to say the least.  We are rescheduling our Nutrition class for Thursday at 5:15.  I know it’s been difficult to get out and exercise….but keep trying.  If you can eat healthy while you have been cooped in a house with kids you can do it anytime.  So keep up the good work.
We hope to open the gym around 10 am in the morning. This is all pending the roads are open and we can get here.  Please check The Gym's facebook page for updates.

Good Luck!

2011 Fitness Challenge Kickoff Party

Lots of people showed up for the Fitness Challenge Kickoff Party held at The Gym last night. Beginning next week on Jan 10, participants will begin tracking their fruit/vegetable & water intake, physical activities and steps taken each day to earn points which will be calculated and turned in to The Gym each week. The big prize giveaway the first week is a free 30 min massage to a random winner picked from names of participants who earn at least 25 points for a weekly total.

You still have time to stop by and register if you did not make it to the event last night, but hurry! The goal of the Fitness Challenge is to jump start those participating into a healthier lifestyle. Eating better, exercising more, drinking more water, all are great ways to stay healthy and people from all over have signed up to join, helping to encourage each other along the way.

Nutrition classes will be held on Tuesdays at 5:15 pm and participants can earn points by attending these sessions along with other events to be announced later. One display "Label Reading" is already visible upon entering the gym, full of helpful information.

Pedometers were handed out as well last night to help the participants keep track of their steps each day. Once they reach 10,000 steps they earn one point. The Gym apologizes for any inconvenience but asks that those who received pedometers last night to return them as early as late this afternoon when a new shipment is expected, with better quality pedometers. The ones handed out last night will be returned and the exchange is at no cost to you.

Good luck to all and thank you for those who made it out last night to the kickoff event. Lets get moving!!!

New Year's Resolution

Most of you have probably made your new year's resolution by now…..  8 out of 10 people (according to statistics) made a resolution this year to lose weight or start leading a healthier lifestyle!

We can help you!  We have a great Challenge starting Monday the 10th.  The goal of this is not necessarily to lose the most weight, it is to help you learn how to become healthy!  Here are the Basics: You track your positive activities with points.  Everyone who joins this challenge gets a pedometer, you earn points based on how many steps you take in a day, how many servings of fruits and vegetables you eat in a day, how many glasses of water you drink each day, and your daily physical activity.  So it makes you aware of what you are doing right, or maybe what you need to improve to make yourself healthy.

This challenge is for adults and children. We will award prizes each week. A kick-off party is this THURSDAY the 6th at 6:00 pm at the Gym. Get a friend to do it with you. It always helps to have peer pressure J . What’s even better---you don’t have to join the Gym to compete in the challenge.  Members and non members are all welcome.

If this doesn’t sound like your speed:  we also have a weight lifting challenge for men and women that is starting.  You earn points based of a 1 rep max.  In squats, bench press and 1.5 mile runs.  You get VERY cool tee-shirts for the categories you fall in.

Hope to see you this year at THE GYM!!!!
